The Twin Towers in New York figured in a much earlier project when I was asked to
provide a series of destination murals for the P&O Steamship Company’s Hong Kong
offices. It was also for the P&O line that I designed my smallest ever project – a
matchbox.
Little was I ever to anticipate being at the top of the Twin Towers as a restaurant guest of
the Gilmore family, to whom I am very grateful for their many years of support for my artistic
endeavours. A day later my wife and I were safely away when the Towers came down but
our hosts barely escaped with their lives – a matter of seconds between life and death.
